Reading in the Dark

I'm a bookworm, hiker, warrior and tyrant. I read all genres of romance. When not reading, you can find me engaged in general acts of mischief, trolling museums and daydreaming.

Blue-Eyed Devil - Lisa Kleypas I am very familiar with the effects narcissism personality disorder can have on a person. I had no idea that this book had a narcissist and his victim as characters. I was quite awed by Kleypas's descriptions of the behaviors of not only the narcissist, but the victim. Her research on this subject was quite thorough.
Hot in Here - Sophie Renwick The characters did that too much thinking thing that I hate. Pages and pages of it. The sex was explicit but that was even too chatty for me. I found myself rather bored with the whole thing.
Breathless - Anne Stuart Damn, this book was rather screwed up. I don't even know what to say about it. 4 stars because it kept me interested.
For the Roses - Julie Garwood Just droned on and on and I couldn't take it. Mary Rose is so sweet and so sweet and so sweet and so kind and she's also very kind and her brother Cole is so disagreeable and so disagreeable and hard to get along with and so disagreeable and Mary Rose is so kind…..

I am a fan of Garwood. Love alot of her stuff. Not this one.

Rock Me (Ross Siblings, #2)

Rock Me (Ross Siblings, #2) - Cherrie Lynn I would have gone 4 stars just for the sex alone. I just happen to like the bad boys. What can I say. :-) However, the writing wasn't all that good at times. Too much narrative and the behaviors of the H/h had a tendency to behave juvenile.
The Bride Thief - Jacquie D'Alessandro I didn't finish this one but I'm giving it 3 stars because I liked about half of it. Then it just fell apart. I was bored. It's not that I didn't like the characters. There was just something….missing.

The book was sitting on my nightstand. I looked at it with a rather pouty kind of dismayed frown on my face. While picking it up a low moan escaped. I thought "crap
Black Ice - Anne Stuart I don't usually read romantic suspense so this was different. I had heard qite a bit about Bastien and went for the read simply because of that.

I really enjoyed this book but the ending came kind of quick. Like everything was crap and then BAM! all better now.

Very good read though. Recommend.
Nevermore - Kelly Creagh I'm giving this 4 stars but, really, I don't know how to rate this one fairly. It started off great. When the real paranormal stuff hit later in the book I was totally confused. And the ending sucked.

However, the book held my interest because I kept waiting for something to happen. I was fretful and anxious and then NOTHING happened. And then when something DID happen, I was like WTF? Perhaps it's because it was a YA and I'm used to more sex or something. It was good, better than a 3, at least for the first half or so.

One Reckless Summer - Toni Blake I'm giving this a 4 but it's really a 3.5. The story was good, the H/h were good too, the hot sex scenes were very good. There was just too much narrative some times. I can't handle when a book goes on and on about…..zzzzzzzz……oh, did I doze off there?

The Perils of Pleasure - Julie Anne Long Really, this is a 3.5 but I bumped it up cause it's JAL. I don't know, I just didn't get even remotely thrilled or come close to sighing blissfully. At the beginning of the book I grinned, for a few minutes, but then it all just fell apart and it seemed there was too much narrative and repetition of events. I found myself skimming through parts and then backing up to make sure I didn't miss something important only to find out I missed nothing important.

It was "eh""."
Everything and the Moon - Julia Quinn Really 3.5 stars. I love Julia Quinn's books but this one left me disappointed. I like my heroes a bit more dangerous.
Claiming the Courtesan - Anna Campbell I can't say too much about this one because I just finished and I'm kinda stunned. This was not what I would call a light, easy, read. It was intense and I had quite a few times where I found myself all knotted up waiting to see how something would pan out.

Both Verity and Justin are rather flawed, perhaps one more than the other, and for differing reasons, but, as is true in romance, they break through the issues with each other and their love brings them some semblance of survival.

Damn, this was good. Recommend.
How to Marry a Marquis - Julia Quinn I was looking for something light and fluffy and this hit the spot. 4.5 stars - .5 off because some of the clumsiness of the heroine was just kind of lame. A bit too much at the beginning of the story and I was rolling my eyes a bit. Book hits my faves list anyway.
Anything for You - Sarah Mayberry 3.5 stars. Something was missing in the character development but I can't put my finger on it. There was also too much thinking and debating with the heads of the characters which is something I'm not fond of.

Still Hot: The Uncensored Guide to Divorce, Dating, Sex, Spite, and Happily Ever After

Still Hot: The Uncensored Guide to Divorce, Dating, Sex, Spite, and Happily Ever After - Sue Mittenthal, Linda Reing I will only comment by saying that this is the only book I have given one star to. Ever. In a nutshell, it was ridiculous and childish.
Promises Prevail - Sarah McCarty I loved books 1 and 2 in the series. This one didn't do it for me. Just couldn't get into the H/h for some reason and found myself skimming through it just so I could say I finished it.
